Her initial inspiration was the shadows that were cast onto grass. Months later she came up with a technique which did not make the subject onto canvas in an image that was flat. More like the object has been transformed into the artist's own image, and the surface takes an interpretation by the artist. This is especially effective when dealing with living objects or items that are perishable like people or fruits. Alexa's painting style has an ephemeral quality, and all that remains of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. Both the painting and photographic techniques are so closely coordinated that the result is a flat, two dimensional space which is able to achieve trompe l'oeil, wherein the third dimension is discernible only in specific areas like near the eyes or hair. Occasionally, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D space around them, allowing them to interact within their own self-created environment. The boundaries between performance, photography, and installation are thus dissolved.
